‘Happiness’ – we all want a bit of this!
This is the time of year when we wish each other ‘happiness’! We all want a bit of this feeling, which can be achieved in so many different ways. For some it’s a good round of golf, for others a bowl of hot soup. We can feel just as happy when we are giving as when we are receiving and sometimes it’s the seemingly small things which have the greatest affect.
At this time of year, we traditionally like to receive gifts, but it’s also a good time to give to others. Many charities, local, national and international will be asking for our support. Save the Children has a Christmas Jumper Day, when you can feel ‘happy’ by wearing a Christmas Jumper and if you sign up to their campaign, you can feel even happier by giving to this good cause. This year it is Thursday 12th December. Go to www.savethechildren.org.uk/christmas-jumper-day Also many of the charity shops on the high street bring out their Christmas Jumpers, so you can double your contribution to charity and maybe double your happiness by buying your jumper in a charity shop! There is even a charity for helping us achieve ‘happiness’ – actionforhappiness.org.
If you need some more tips, they have some ideas about how to feel happy. And for all of us there are the Warm in Wedmore sessions, starting on Wednesday 4th December. A bowl of hot soup, a good cuppa and a good chat with ‘friends you know’ and ‘friends you have yet to know’, is a good start for a ‘happy’ season. So I wish you ‘happiness’ in December in whatever way suits you!

Reaching Out for Mental Health Awards for caring community organisations have been presented in Wedmore. They were given by Heads Up, whose Service Director Bridget Harvey said: “We are aware that Wedmore & Axbridge Community Health Fund have reached out to many vulnerable people with dementia and their families, signposting them to us and local specialised services. “Heads Up wanted to recognise all your good work and say thank you.” The other two awards went to the Swan Hotel who host the Carer’s Group meetings and John Hodge Solicitors for supporting Heads Up. Laurie Purvis, manager of the Swan, added: “We are so pleased to be able to provide a safe place for people living with dementia and their carers.”
