Axbridge & Wedmore Doctors have decided to designate Wedmore Surgery as our COVID Assessment Centre from the end of the May. They will staff it with one clinician from one of the three surgeries and one of their receptionists. This will allow the Practice to increase the amount of routine health and wellbeing work we are able to undertake at Axbridge Surgery. Thank you for your understanding, patience and kindness during this unprecedented period. It is very much appreciated by all of our team.
As you may know, we have been collaborating with Highbridge and Brent Surgeries during the COVID pandemic and, towards the end of March, we opened a COVID Primary Assessment Centre at Burnham Hospital. Any patients who were suspected as having COVID or had a respiratory problem were assessed over the telephone and, if necessary, seen by clinicians there to save them coming into our own surgeries and risking cross infection. At present two clinicians from the three surgeries are staffing the Assessment Centre each day.
We are all relieved that the number of cases has not risen as was originally predicted and we have only been speaking to and seeing a small number of people each day. As a result, we have reviewed the situation and decided that the numbers do not warrant us having two people at the Assessment Centre every day. In addition, we anticipate that the Minor Injury Unit will resume activity in the space we are using at some stage.
However, we also recognise that, although the numbers are small, it is important that we keep these patients separate from our other work. We have therefore decided to designate Wedmore Surgery as our COVID Assessment Centre and staff it with one clinician from one of the three surgeries and one of our receptionists. This will allow us to increase the amount of routine health and wellbeing work we are able to undertake at Axbridge.
If you are assessed as potentially having COVID or you have a respiratory problem and you need to be seen face-to-face, you will be asked to attend Wedmore Surgery to see the clinician. Wedmore will not be open for any other reason in order to keep this separation of patients and minimise the risk of cross infection. All other activity
will take place at Axbridge for the foreseeable future.
Please do not attend Wedmore Surgery unless you have been given specific instructions to do so.
We believe that this is the best course of action to protect our patients and staff and allow us to provide more routine services. It may be a long time before we have a vaccine or we eliminate COVID and we have to find new ways of working. We are happy to answer questions if you are unable to source the information you need yourself. There is lots of information on our website which is updated regularly.
We really appreciate your support.
