How to enter to enter the competition

Entry is a two part process. First register your intention to enter and then secondly submit your entry.

  1. Registration
    • This Photography Competition is for residents of the parish of Wedmore of all ages and is free to enter
    • The opening date for registering entries will be the 4th May 2024.
      Closing date for registering entries will be 12th August 2024 at 18:00 (6pm).
    • Registrations received after this time will not be accepted.
    • You can register your entry in one of two ways:-
    • Go to www.bit.ly/iowsphoto  and complete the online form.  You will receive an email confirmation of your wish to enter.
  1. By Post.
    • Complete the paper form to be found in the Post Office or The Village Stores and deliver or send to Jean Gregory at 24, Cross Farm Green, BS28 4EY.
  1. Submission of Entries
    • Bring your photograph(s) in person to Jean Gregory at the above address on either the 19th and 20thof Aug. 2024 between 10:00am and 19:00.

Note. Parking in Cross Farm Green is very limited so please park in the Wedmore public car when delivering your entry(s).

  • There you will be given an identification label(s) for you to then stick in a corner on the front of your photograph(s).
  • For the purpose of judging your photograph(s) shall not have any other identifying information or marks.

Technical Requirements and eligibility

  1. This Photography Competition is for residents of the parish of Wedmore of all ages and is free to enter.
  2. Photographs must be camera-original and not digitally manipulated.
  3. There will be four Classes:-
    • Class One – For people 16 years of age and under, with the theme – The Historical Features of the Parish.
    • Class Two – For people over 16 years of age, with the theme – The Historical Features of the Parish.
    • Class Three – For people 16 years of age and under, with the theme – Natural and green aspects of the Parish.
    • Class Four – For people over 16 years of age, with the theme – Natural and green aspects of the Parish.
  4. For classes one and three the photographer must 16 or younger on the 19th 2024.
  5. No entrant may submit more than three photographs for any class.
  6. The photograph(s) must measure A5 or 8 inches X 6 inches (200X150mm).
  7. There must not be any borders or mounts.
  8. Ideally photographs should be printed on photographic paper

Judging, prizes and notification

  1. Entrants should bear in mind that the Society’s focus in this Competition is to illustrate the historical and natural aspects of the Wedmore Parish in an interesting and appealing way, so photographs will be judged accordingly.
  2. The competition entries will be judged by a panel of three judges before the photographs are displayed.
  3. The winners will be notified by email or telephone using details provided on their registration form
  4. The winning photographs in each class will be identified on the display boards.
    • For each of the four classes there will be cash prizes as follows:- £25 for first place, £15 for second place. A third prize of £5.00 may be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
    • A special prize donated by Robin Grey will be awarded to the overall winner.
    • The prizes will be presented to the winners on Monday 26th at 3:30pm in the church or delivered later if they are not available.
    • .The winners’ names will be published in the Isle of Wedmore News.
  5. The Judges’ decision is final. The decision of the Society regarding any aspect of the Photography Competition is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.

The Photographic Display

  1. All entries will be displayed for exhibition from 24th to 26th August 2024 in the Guild Chapel at St Mary’s Church, Wedmore.
  2. Photographs will be available to collect after the exhibition at 4:30pm on the 26th 2024.
  3. Those not collected on the 26th Aug can be collected from 24 Cross Farm Green. The Society cannot accept responsibility for any photographs not collected by Friday 30th 2024.

Ownership of competition entries

  1. Any entry must be your own original work and each entrant must be accountable for the photograph(s) they have submitted. If a recognisable person is shown then their permission to be included in the competition must be sought and the photographer will indemnify the Society against any legal action.
  2. Full copyright title shall be retained by the author of any entry. If the IOW Society wishes to publish your photograph your permission will be sought. Permission for this will be included in the registration form.
  3. The Society reserves the right not to enter or to display any photograph which could offend in any way or to breach confidentiality.

Data protection and publicity

  1. By entering the Photography Competition, you agree that any personal information provided by you with your entry may be held and used by the Society for the sole purpose of administrating the competition.
  2. Winners may be required to participate in publicity related to the Photography Competition which may include the publication of their name and photograph in any media. Permission for this will be included in the registration form.
  3. The Society reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions from time to time and any updated version will be effective as soon as it is published.
  4. By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.
  5. The Society reserves the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award a prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.
